Meet Miss PIFA 2021/22 Alana Godoy

Alana Godoy

Alana Nicole Kikanani Godoy is 23 years old, of Hawaiian descent, and is the oldest of four siblings in her family. She graduated with a BA from San Diego State University SDSU Summa Cum Laude in Anthropology and Sociology.  She was awarded with a variety of scholarships during her college career and has been a member of several Honors societies including, Phi Beta Kappa, Tau Sigma, and Phi Theta Kappa.

Alana has also earned a fellowship with Asian Pacific Partners for Empowerment, Advocacy, and Leadership (APPEAL), served as a member of SDSU’s Mortar Board, and has earned the distinction of Outstanding Graduating Senior at San Diego State.

Growing up as a Polynesian dancer with Kaleo Onalani, Alana has spent the majority of her life involved in the community and has served as Miss PIFA Princess from 2017-2020 and Miss Charity from 2018-2020. She created her own YouTube channel and website, “Sincerely Alana” where she brings awareness to social issues, culture, and encourages a confident and healthy lifestyle. She has worked throughout her entire college career and is currently employed at Reva Events and Maeva Tours.

Alana is continuing her education at Windward Community College towards a degree in Hawaiian Studies and plans on studying for a Master in Applied Anthropology with an emphasis in Pacific Islander studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

As Miss PIFA 2021, she would like to take this year to focus on several goals and topics that are very near and dear to her. These topics include continuing PIFA’s support of obtaining higher education, furthering PIFA’s legacy by elevating the organization, and focusing on the importance of addressing historical trauma to promote the overall health and wellbeing of the Pacific Islander community.

Alana has proposed the addition of a new PIFA Graduate Scholarship to further assist Pacific Islander students in obtaining graduate level degrees; the creation of a Legacy Internship Program aimed at inviting the next generation of Pacific Islander leaders to partake in PIFA as an organizational whole, and the continuation of the Next Generation Educational Summit.

Covid-permitting, the Summit will take place in person during the Spring of 2022 and will invite people of all ages to learn about Pacific Islander culture and customs, the effects of historical trauma, and how to counter those consequences with cultural practices, new hobbies, and community support.  Stay tuned for more information on the Summit via our social media platform.
